Moments with cheerleader - Chapter 1

As Rachel stepped through the door of the cheerleading office, her heart thumped against her ribcage like a bass drum beat. This was it – the moment she had been waiting for since childhood, when she first practiced cartwheels until her arms ached. Her confidence radiated around her, amplified by the sizzling desire to claim victory and secure her place among the renowned cheerleading squad.

Coach Bradley Smith sat behind his desk, gaze intense as he scrutinized her presence. Despite his intensity and reputation as a demanding coach, there was a warmth and compassion about him which made Rachel believe they could understand one another easily.

"I'm Coach Brad. You're Rachel, correct?" he asked as he stood up to shake her hand.

"Yes, it's nice to meet you!" she replied with a friendly but sincere focus.

He motioned her towards a chair opposite him, "I apologize for not making a direct introduction earlier but with so many applicants it can be a bit time consuming. I called you in today to discuss your cheerleader tryout."

Without hesitation, Rachel responded earnestly, "Oh, wow, thank you so much for giving me this opportunity! I really hope I make the cut. What do you think of my skills?"

Smiling softly at her question, Coach Brad nodded. "You really show some talent. I can tell you're committed to the sport of cheerleading and aspire to be the best. I also note that you're already on campus with an academic scholarship so you're here solely to prove your worth as a competitor. I will say that right now you're one of four college freshman I'm considering for the final spot on this team. It's competitive, Rachel,"
